The design of this pendant was inspired by a mysterious pond in Gifu, Japan which, for its resemblance to Claude Monet’s Impressionist paintings of lily ponds, has come to be known as “Monet’s Pond.” Maki-e was applied to both sides of the amber, which has beautiful ancient inclusions. It shows red carp swimming in a water lily pond, recalling Monet’s renderings.
